Lidia's Italian-American Kitchen


This is a great meal to have with your favorite family and friends. It takes about 30 minutes to prepare and about 45 minutes cook.

So lets get started!

Utensils and oven setting:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees
  • One Large mixing bowl
  • One cheese grater
  • One rectangular 15" ( Pyrex glass or metal ) cake pan
  • Large Pot to boil noodles
  • Medium skillet



  • 1 box large lasagna noodles
  • 1 quart Ricotta Cheese
  • 2 lbs brick medium Cheese
  • 2 lbs Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1 ½ jars of spaghetti sauce ( your favorite)
  • 1 can olives
  • ½ cup diced fresh mushrooms
  • 1 lb meat of choice- Lean ground sirloin is best
  • Olive oil
  • Spices: Garlic, pepper, salt, oregano

Fill the large pot with water and bring to a boil. Add one tablespoon of olive oil and noodles to the water. Cook the noodles until they are a medium- tender ( do not over- cook). When noodles are done, put the pot in the sink and fill slowly till the water is cool to the touch. You are now ready for the next step.

Add to your skillet 1 lb. of ground sirloin steak. Cook the meat until done: add spices to meat. Spice to taste ( pepper, salt, oregano, garlic salt.).

Open your favorite jar of spaghetti sauce, pour into the cooked meat, then heating this mixture till boiling, remove sauce skillet from the stove and set aside. Place on the bottom of the rectangular pan, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 5 tablespoons of sauce, spread this evenly. Place a layer of noodles slightly lapping each other on top of the sauce in the pan covering the bottom completely. Picture #1

You are now ready for the main ingredients. Scoop 1/3 of the Ricotta cheese on top of the noodles. Spread it evenly over the noodles. Now add 1/3 of your sauce spreading evenly. Grate your Mozzarella and yellow cheese using about ¼ of each block of cheese for each layer. Add your 1/3 of the cooked meat sauce, then a new layer of noodles. follow the steps above for this second layer. Picture #2

Do the same for the third layer. But save 5 tablespoons of sauce and set this aside.

Cover the top of third layer with noodles. Spread the left over meat sauce on top. Add the diced olives, diced mushrooms and add the rest of the cheese grated. Picture #3

Place pan into the preheated over for about 45 minutes (remove when the top is a golden brown and the lasagna is starting to boil on the sides). When done let stand for 20 minutes to cool. Cut into 10 serving portion. Enjoy! Picture #4
